Furled Leaders

So just what is a furled leader?

The furled leader is a tapered leader, made by careful layout of a single strand of thread or monofilament, which is then spun and twisted in such a way as to build a tapered 'rope' of sorts.
Born on the storied chalk streams of Britain, furled leaders were first crafted of horse hair and later of silk from the Far East.  Furled leaders have been around since the 18th century. They are very different from braided leaders. The weaving process itself is different -- and as a result a furled leader is solid. There is no hollow center.
Each leader is individually hand woven and furled into a beautiful taper, tapering smoothly from butt to tippet. Additionally, a furled leader has no memory.  It is as limp as a dish-rag.  They have a superior shock absorption to single-strand leaders.  Try this one when you receive your furled leader, grab it by the butt end and simply give it a little cast, notice how it flat out lays the line out.  Now imagine what this will do on the end of your fly line.
